How to build vocabulary that sticks

Learn words in context, not isolation: A word attached to a sentence or image is far easier to recall than a word on its own in a list.
Use spaced repetition: Review new words at increasing intervals (1 day, 3 days, a week) rather than cramming - it's the single most effective vocabulary technique. The Word List Driller automates this.
Prioritize high-frequency words first: The most common 1,000 words in any language cover the vast majority of everyday conversation - learn those before rare vocabulary.
Group by theme: Learning "kitchen words" or "travel words" together builds a usable cluster of vocabulary faster than a random alphabetical list.

Verb conjugation basics

Concept	What it means
Conjugation	Changing a verb's form to match its subject (I, you, he/she, we, they) and tense
Regular verbs	Follow a predictable pattern based on their ending (e.g., Spanish -ar, -er, -ir verbs)
Irregular verbs	Don't follow the standard pattern and must be memorized individually - usually the most common verbs (to be, to go, to have)
Tense	When the action happens - past, present, future
Mood	The speaker's attitude toward the action - indicative (fact), subjunctive (doubt/wish), imperative (command)

Strategy: master the present tense of regular verbs first, then the 10-15 most common irregular verbs - that combination unlocks the majority of everyday sentences.

Building daily immersion habits

Switch one device to the target language: Your phone's system language forces small reps of reading throughout the day without extra study time.
Speak out loud, even alone: Producing the language, not just recognizing it, builds a different and necessary set of skills.
Consume media just above your level: Shows, songs, or articles slightly harder than what's comfortable stretch your vocabulary without being overwhelming.
